The first real conversation I had with Jake Hogge was when we shared eight hours together in the car driving down from the bay area to Los Angeles to be roommates at USC. On the drive down, Jake kept throwing out names of his friends and family while telling me stories about his childhood and I had to constantly remind him that we just met and that I had no idea who he was talking about. But there was one name that kept coming up — Steve, Steve, Steve. I finally asked him, “who’s Steve?” He gave me an answer that led to ten more questions, but followed it up with an amazing story about fatherhood, identity, and self-discovery.
